Botelho Takes 16th at IRONMAN Chattanooga

Ray Botelho, a native Newporter and 1992 graduate of Rogers High School, continues his amazing 2015 Professional Ironman Triathlon season. On Sunday, Botelho placed 16th out of a field made up of over 2,600 athletes.

The 42-year-old Botelho, who first turned pro at age 22, seems to only get better with age. His 8:47:08 finish represents his personal best IRONMAN time of his professional career.

Splits:
2.4 mile swim – 45:14
116 mile bike – 4:35:42
26.2 mile run – 3:20:04

“A pretty damn good day against a very strong field. I’ll take it and I believe I will perform even better. The goal was top 10. I took16th Place in 8:47:08. My 21st Ironman Finish,” said Botelho. “A “fast” swim, a strong “long” 115+ mile bike as that is my strength and a “tough” run on a challenging course. I faded at the end, though I was very positive all day. The run is where I’m determined to improve. I’m really looking forward to IMAZ (IRONMAN Arizona) on 11/15. Thank you to my ‪QT2‬ coach John Spinney for all his efforts. Thank you to all of my sponsors and supporters! I really do love my equipment and I appreciate all of the cheer.”

In other IRONMAN competition this year, Botelho took 9th at the 70.3 Eagleman in Cambridge, Maryland, 12th at the IRONMAN North American Championships in Woodlands, TX and 2nd a the Pumkinman Half Iron in South Berwick Maine.
