A copper thief’s late-night spree has come to a cr A copper thief’s late-night spree has come to a crashing halt.

Cops say Luther Parente, 42, was busted after allegedly breaking into vacant Little Compton homes and ripping out copper piping — leaving behind flooded basements and costly damage.

Parente is now facing felony breaking and entering and receiving stolen goods, and was already wanted on two Superior Court bench warrants for skipping court on unrelated charges.

Detectives say the break-ins followed a pattern: empty homes, overnight entries, and copper pipes sliced from basement walls. The aftermath? Significant water damage as pipes were torn out, according to police.

The months-long investigation got its big break through DNA. Authorities say evidence collected from a July 2025 incident was sent to the Rhode Island Department of Health — and came back a match to Parente.

Police moved quickly, securing a warrant and taking him into custody Monday.
Parente was arraigned and is now being held without bail at the ACI as a bail violator. His next court date is set for March 31.

Cops warn the case may not be over — more charges and arrests could be coming as the investigation continues.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Providence College has named Br PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Providence College has named Bryan Hodgson as its 17th men’s basketball head coach, officials announced Sunday.

Hodgson arrives after a standout 2025-26 season at South Florida, where he led the Bulls to a 25-9 record, an American Athletic Conference title, and their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2012. He was named conference Coach of the Year.

In three seasons as a head coach, Hodgson has compiled a 70-37 record, including a successful turnaround at Arkansas State with back-to-back 20-win seasons.

“Bryan is a proven winner,” Athletic Director Steve Napolillo said.

Before becoming a head coach, Hodgson was an assistant at Alabama, helping guide the program to multiple NCAA Tournament runs.

“I’m honored and excited,” Hodgson said. “We’re going to build something tough, disciplined and relentless.”

He will be introduced Tuesday at Mullaney Gym as Providence looks to begin a new era.
