City of Newport Seeking Input for Transportation Master Plan

With the summer season winding down, City planners are asking Newport residents, business owners, and visitors alike to help “Keep Newport Moving” by participating in an online survey designed to kick off the City’s first comprehensive Transportation Master Plan.

Information gleaned from the survey, which can be found online at CityofNewport.comKeepNewportMoving, will be used to help guide the development of a formal RFP expected to be issued in the coming months.

“I can’t stress enough how vital public participation is to this process,” said Patricia Reynolds, Newport’s Director of Planning and Economic Development. “This community survey will not only help raise awareness about the Transportation Master Plan within the community, but it will also provide us with a foundation for moving forward and is very much a central component to crafting an effective RFP.”

In addition to assessing the City’s existing transportation infrastructure, the Transportation Master Plan will also provide an opportunity for the community to establish a shared vision to equitably address the transportation challenges facing the City, as well as to set achievable and measurable goals that will shape Newport’s long-term mobility strategy and inform future development.

As a companion document to the City’s Comprehensive Land Use Plan, public engagement is critical to the process and will be a key factor in determining the success of the final proposal.

All are invited to participate – either digitally by visiting www.CityofNewport.com/KeepNewportMoving, or in person during a special public kickoff workshop, scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 14th beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Innovate Newport.
