In July of 2018, the Newport City Council authorized City staff to begin examining the possible redevelopment of the Humphrey J. “Harp” Donnelly III Newport Gateway Transportation and Visitors Center. As part of that process, the City is looking to hear from residents and business owners about their ideas for repurposing this important downtown property.
On Thursday, Nov. 15th, City staff will be joined by representatives from the Newport Project Development Company to solicit input on how we, as a community, can take advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity.
All those interested in learning more about the project are invited to join in on the conversation from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, located on the Second Floor of City Hall. Comments may also be submitted to the City’s Communications Office at TShevlin@CityofNewport.com.
First opened in 1988, the Gateway Center currently serves as the City’s primary public transportation and visitor’s hub. This will be the first in a series of public outreach efforts concerning the future of the City-owned property, and all are welcome to attend.
