The first confirmed great white shark sighting of 2012 has been confirmed off of Chatham on Cape Cod. Cape Cod Shark Hunters pilot George Breen spotted a 16 foot 2000 pound great white shark hunting seals just 50 yards off of Chatham, MA near some popular swimming beaches.

“I spotted a couple yesterday. One was about a quarter mile offshore and the bigger of the two was about 50 yards off.” said pilot George Breen.  ”We know the areas where they hang out, basically they hang out with the seals… their food source.”

No beaches have been closed but swimmers are urged to asked to use caution and not to swim at dusk or in locations heavily populated by seals.
