Newport Hospital’s Frederick Henry Prince Memorial Fund awards $23,000 in local grants to three organizations

Newport Hospital’s Frederick Henry Prince Memorial Fund has awarded a total of $23,000 to three local organizations that enhance the lives of children throughout Newport County by promoting active lifestyles, education, and fun.

These grants to local programs and organizations began in 2010 when Elizabeth Prince of Newport and her children Guillaume de Ramel, Diana Oehrli, and Regis de Ramel conferred upon Newport Hospital a $3 million grant from the Frederick Henry Prince 1932 Trust. The Frederick Henry Prince Memorial Fund was established in partnership with Newport Hospital to provide activities to school-age children who do not have access to other programs.

To date, nearly $400,000 has been awarded to area groups focused on activity, participation, and innovative initiatives that emphasize improving fitness levels and self-discipline while discouraging the use of cigarettes, alcohol and drugs.

The October recipients of Frederick Henry Prince Memorial Fund grants and their projects are:
– City of Newport ($10,000) for the new Newport skatepark
– Bike Newport ($10,000) for continued growth of community-based biking
– Sail Newport ($3,000) for the Newport public school fourth-grade sailing program

These grants were approved by the Prince Memorial Fund advisory committee at the end of September and were funded in October. For more information about the Frederick Henry Prince Memorial Fund at Newport Hospital, please visit https://www.giving.lifespan.org/FHP.
