WINTER:

Beat the winter doldrums at The Newport Winter FestivalFebruary 17th – 26th, with over 150 events here in The City By The Sea. Know as New England’s Largest Winter Extravaganza, highlights of The Newport Winter Fest include an ice sculpting competition, a concert series, a city-wide scavenger hunt, a chili cook-off, comedy events and a children’s fair.

 

SPRING:

March ushers in Newport’s Irish Heritage Month, March 1st – 31st, and is a celebration of all things Irish, commemorating Newport’s strong ties to Ireland and our deep Irish roots.

The 56th Annual Newport St. Patrick’s Day Parade takes place rain, snow or shine, on Saturday, March 17th.

The parade kicks off  at 11am from Newport City Hall on Broadway and winds its way through downtown Newport before ending at St. Augustin’s Church in Newport’s Irish 5th ward. Tens of thousands of revelers flock to Newport from all over New England and beyond to watch the 2 hour-long parade and celebrate Irish heritage and history.  Newport’s many spectacular bars, restaurants and nightclubs will be packed and full of good cheer for what is known throughout the land….St. Patrick’s Day is the best day of the year in Newport! RSVP HERE or join Newport St. Patrick’s Day Parade Facebook Group

Newport Restaurant WeekSpring 2012 runs from March 23rd – April 1st and features mouth-watering three-course prix-fixe lunches for $16 and three-course prix- fixe dinners for only $30 at dozens of the finest Newport restaurants.

 

SUMMER:

Summer in Newport 2012 will feature world-class events and entertainment and will bring hundreds of thousands of visitors from near, far and from all over the world.

The America’s Cup comes home to Newport in June 2012, hosting the The America’s Cup World Series of Races from June 23rd to July 1st.  The America’s Cup regatta will race right on Narragansett Bay giving the public excellent viewing opportunities all along the Newport waterfront to watch the world’s top sailors compete in the state-of-the-art AC45 wing-sailed catamarans.

Next up is Newport’s annual 4th of July fireworks display over Newport Harbor. Forth of July weekend is always the busiest weekend of the summer and this year the 4th falls on a Wednesday — making for an extra long weekend!  Make your dinner reservations and book your accommodations far in advance because this weekend always sells out!

With barely any time to catch our breath, the Tall Ships Newport Challenge Series sails into Newport Harbor from July 5th – 9th featuring day sails and daily tours of these amazing yachts, a huge fireworks display and the Tall Ships International Ball on Saturday, July 7th. The Tall Ships Newport Challenge Series culminates with The Tall Ships Parade of Sail on Monday, July 9th.

The Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championship comes to Newport, RI from July 9th – 15th when Newport welcomes some

of the top men’s tennis professionals in the world. 2011 Hall of Fame Champion John Isner will return to defend his title and battle for the coveted Van Allen Cup on the only grass court tennis championship in North America. Purchase your tickets.

 

Newport Black Ships Festival

Our Japanese friends from Newport’s sister city in Shimoda, Japan come to Newport from July 12th through the 15th to celebrate the 29th Annual Black Ships Festival in a celebration of friendship between our two cities and to honor and commemorate the historic achievements of Commodore Matthew C. Perry, USN, of Newport, RI who negotiated the Treaty of Kanagawa in 1854, the first treaty between the United States and Japan, thus ending two centuries of Japanese isolationism. The Black Ships Festival – Black Tie Gala is a must on the Newport social calendar.

The Newport Music Festival will celebrate its 43rd season July 13th – 29th,  presenting unique chamber music programs, American debuts, world-class artists and special events in the famous Newport Mansions.

The world famous and historic Newport Folk Festival comes to Newport, RI on July 28th and 29th and takes over Fort Adams State Park featuring some of the top folk rock artists and musicians from around the world. The Newport Jazz Festival comes to Newport, RI on August 3rd – 5th with an opening night concert at The International Tennis Hall of Fame and weekend concerts at Fort Adams State Park. – Jazz Festival Tickets

The la-di-da folks come to town August 16th – 19th for The Newport Preservation Society’s Newport Coaching Weekend, preserving a century-old sporting tradition and driving their authentic 19th Century horse drawn carriages around the streets of Newport and on the grounds of the famous Newport Mansions.
