Newport Rugby Club To Defend “Paul Crowley Cup” In Match With KinsalePaul Crowley Newport RI RFC

The Newport Rugby Football Club, one of the top rugby clubs in the nation, is headed to Ireland for two international matches against Monkstown FC from Dublin and Kinsale RFC from County Cork.

The Newport RFC looks to defend the “Paul Crowley Cup” against Kinsale RFC. The coveted trophy is named in honor of former Rhode Island State Representative Paul Crowley, who passed away in 2007. Paul was one of the driving forces behind the twinning of Kinsale, Ireland and the city of Newport, RI, and was one of Newport Rugby’s biggest supporters. This will be the third time that Newport and Kinsale have faced each other with the home team winning each of the previous meetings. The first match took place in 1999 in Kinsale and the second here in Newport in 2009.

Newport Rugby Newport RINewport RFC will also take part in a professionally run practice session with current Irish National Coaches in Dublin.

Newport RFC will host their final practice in preparation of their Ireland Tour, on Saturday, April 14th, at 10:30 am, at Fort Adams State Park.Ben Hurd Newport RI Rugby

 

 

The Touring Club will gather for a Team photo in front of the Old Stone Mill in Touro Park at 12:30 pm, Monday, April 16th, prior to departure to the airport.

The 51-man group will be in Ireland from April 16 – 23.
