Pell Bridge Ramp Realignment project will free up roughly 20-30 acres for future development in Newport’s North End

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation released a Draft Environmental Assessment for the anticipated Pell Bridge Ramp Realignment project earlier today, detailing their recommended design for the area.

The proposal, which would free up roughly 20-30 acres for future development in the City’s North End, calls for a reconfigured road design to encourage greater connectivity between Newport’s North End and Downtown neighborhoods; dedicated bike paths, enhanced pedestrian crossings, and a surface parking facility to encourage the use of a downtown shuttle services and other alternative mobility options.
