The Preservation Society of Newport County will present a series of lectures by the Directors of some of the country’s most prominent historic house museums this summer.

Four Families, a House, and a Presciently Leveraged Collection
One of the finest small art museums in the country is housed in a National Historic Landmark, built in 1820, where William H. Taft accepted his presidential nomination in 1908. The Taft family amassed a tremendous art collection which they bequeathed along with the house to the city of Cincinnati in 1927.

By the time he moved to New York around 1900 he was assembling one of the finest Old Master art collections in the world. Learn about the mansions he built around the art that he loved.

Designed by Charles McKim and considered by many to be his masterpiece, The Morgan Library & Museum began as the private library of financier Pierpont Morgan, adjacent to his NYC home. The Italian Renaissance-style palazzo with three magnificent rooms epitomized America’s Age of Elegance. In 1924, J.P. Morgan fulfilled his father’s dream by making the library public.
