RIP Barry E. Magee – Newport Police, Ret.

Barry E. Magee, 71, of Middletown died peacefully on Thursday, February 4, 2016 surrounded by family and friends at Newport Hospital.

Born on January 23, 1945 in Saranac Lake, NY, he was the son of the late Glenn and Josephine (Marello) Magee.

Barry served in the United States Navy during Vietnam War, with tours in Italy and Iceland as well. He retired after 23 years with the rank of Senior Master Chief. His last tour was in charge of the brig at the Newport Naval Station. After his dedicated service he began his career as a police officer with the Newport Police Department for 21 years and continued his passion for law enforcement serving 6 more years working proudly and diligently with the Retired Officer Corps. Barry was an avid reader, enjoyed cooking and photography, sharing his wealth of knowledge of politics and world history. He was a previous member of the Elks Lodge.
