George Clarke

RIP George Clarke

George H. Clarke II, 76, of Newport, RI, died on November 1, 2018. George was born on March 23, 1942 to the late Robert S. Clarke and Elizabeth (Bryon) Clarke. He was the husband to Claudia Clarke.

George graduated from Rogers High School, The College of Emporia, Kansas, and Providence College. He also served in the Army National Guard for six years. He coached at the Portsmouth Abbey and Thompson Jr. High School. George taught at Thompson Jr. High School and Rogers High School, worked as a life guard at Eastons Beach and worked at the Newport Yachting Center. George loved the community of Newport.

George was a hard-working responsible man and very precise in his work. If he was mowing the lawn, working at the beach, yachting center, teaching, coaching, taking care of his family, he tried his very best. George had a great sense of humor and would make people laugh. He had a good personality and people felt comfortable talking to him. If they had a problem, he would listen and try to console or help them. He was very organized and a good leader, fair minded and compassionate. He had a nice voice and did a good job speaking at special events.

George had a passion for all sports and was a loyal Giants fan. George always enjoyed the months of fall, it was his favorite season. He liked animals and was good to all of our dogs. George worked out every day and tried to eat healthy. He encouraged his family to do the same.

His parents thought of him as a solid man and was strong and reliable. He was a good provider and took good care of his family and this enabled me, his wife, to take care of our two sons.

We will miss George very much, however, he taught his family to be strong and to do our very best.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons George Clarke III, and Robert S. Clarke II, grandchildren Milla Clarke and George Townsend Clarke, his brother Townsend Clarke and his wife Pat, and their four girls Patricia, Elizabeth, Catherine and Shannon.

George is pre-deceased by his brother Robert S. Clarke Jr.
