RIP Richard Bulk

Richard “Ricky” John Bulk, 77, of Middletown RI passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 4, 2018.  Born March 15, 1941, he was a lifelong resident of Middletown.  Richard was a graduate of Rogers High School.  He was retired from Bulk Truck and Equipment and the Town of Middletown.  In his retirement, most days he could be found at “the shop” or taxiing his grandchildren to their many daily activities, sporting events, and Frosty Freez. He was a member of the National Guard, Vasco da Gama Portuguese American Charitable Society, and North End Club.

Above all, Richard was a devoted, selfless, and loving father, “Opa”, brother, uncle, and friend to many. He enjoyed sharing stories filled with both fiction and fact, leaving it up to you to decide which was which.  Ricky generously supported many local organizations as he could never pass up the opportunity to buy a raffle ticket.  He certainly was lucky in life, love, and raffles.  Always quick with a smile and his ear to the ground, he treasured his time spent camping with his family on Nelson Hill in New Hampshire, going to the NASCAR races in Dover with the boys, and traveling to Disney and Stew’s Place in Florida each winter.  He was devoted to his grandchildren and there wasn’t anything he would not do for them; in turn, they shared an infinite amount of love and adoration for him. Richard leaves behind many wonderful memories of love that touched the lives of all who knew him.

Richard was the son to the late Reinier and Elizabeth (Peabody) Bulk. He was husband of the late Eileen P. Bulk.  He is survived by his son John and his wife Wendy Bulk of Portsmouth and daughter Jennifer and her husband Joseph Lopes of Middletown.  He leaves his three grandsons Brendan, JC, and Johnny.  In addition Richard is survived by his brother Robert Bulk and wife Deborah, and sister Judith Asher. He is predeceased by his brothers Reinier and Ronald Bulk.  He also leaves behind his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends that he held close.

Visiting hours will be Sunday, December 9, 2018 from 2:00pm-5:00 pm at the O’Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring St, Newport.  A Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, December 10 at 9:30 am, Jesus Saviour Church, 509 Broadway, Newport.  Burial will follow in Middletown Four Corners Cemetery, corner of Wyatt & Turner Roads, Middletown.
