This summer, the Preservation Society of Newport C This summer, the Preservation Society of Newport County is transforming its storied estates and lush gardens into whimsical playgrounds for young minds. Two charming programs—“Traveling Tuesdays” and “Thursdays in the Garden”—invite children ages 5 to 7 (plus their ever-curious siblings and caregivers) to explore history, nature, and creativity in some of Newport’s most iconic settings.

“Traveling Tuesdays” runs weekly from July 8 to August 19, each session held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at a different mansion within the Society’s portfolio. Each week offers a fresh adventure, linking hands-on activities and crafts with the rich cultural narratives of Newport’s Gilded Age landmarks.

On Thursdays from July 10 to August 21, the verdant wonderland of Green Animals Topiary Garden in Portsmouth becomes the classroom. There, “Thursdays in the Garden” turns flora into fun, offering children a chance to dig into the natural world while exploring the property’s iconic animal-shaped topiaries.

Both programs are more than just glorified playdates. They are gentle introductions to Newport’s living history and natural beauty—experiences that blend learning with delight. Think kite-flying on the lawn, storytelling in the shade, and tiny hands busy with glue sticks and curiosity.

Admission is complimentary for Preservation Society Family-level members, with a modest materials fee for others. Advance registration is required.

The Elm Street Pier is officially open following a The Elm Street Pier is officially open following a major reconstruction project.

Damaged by a series of winter storms, the pier has been fully rebuilt to its original length, now with several key upgrades. Improvements include a new touch-and-go floating dock, an ADA-accessible ramp, a swimming dock, and a slightly higher profile designed to provide greater resilience against future storms and high tides.

The project, which cost approximately $1.5 million, was the first construction effort approved by the Newport City Council under the City’s 2024 $98.5 million General Obligation Bond. It is also the second bond-funded project to be completed within the last month.

With construction now finished, the pier is once again open for public use — just in time for the summer season.

A friend of Newport Buzz is hoping to find a lovin A friend of Newport Buzz is hoping to find a loving new home for her two beautiful huskies, Koa and Miko.

These handsome pups are both 9-year-old males, house-trained, and incredibly well-behaved. They’re not just pets—they’re loyal companions with sweet personalities and a lifetime of love to give.

Unfortunately, due to housing restrictions, their current owner can no longer keep them. She’s heartbroken but wants what’s best for them: a home with a yard, space to run, and someone who can give them the care and attention they deserve.

If you or someone you know is looking to welcome two perfect pups into their life, please reach out.

Contact Morgan at 740-804-3031 to learn more about adopting Koa and Miko.

Let’s help give these boys the forever home they deserve!
