Newport’s Castle Hill Inn Targets March Reopening, Memorial Day Dining Return After Devastating Fire

NEWPORT, R.I. — Less than a week after a fire heavily damaged Newport’s iconic Castle Hill Inn, the historic waterfront resort has announced a phased reopening plan, signaling a faster-than-expected path back to welcoming guests.

Initially expected to remain closed for months, the inn will resume overnight stays at its Beach Houses and Beach Cottages beginning March 5. Until the main mansion reopens later this spring, operations will be based out of the Chalet, which was not affected by the fire.

Guests staying overnight will receive meals and refreshments from the Chalet, including breakfast, afternoon tea, and evening cocktails with light bites. Room service will also be available throughout the day. The boutique spa, The Retreat at Castle Hill by Farmaesthetics, will temporarily relocate to the Chalet’s upper level, and evening transportation will be offered for guests dining in downtown Newport.

All previously booked weddings will proceed as scheduled, according to the hotel. Event and wedding spaces are separate from the main building and will continue to be fully supported by the Chalet kitchen.

Castle Hill Inn plans to reopen its restaurants and bars, including The Lawn Terrace and Aurelia at Castle Hill, by Memorial Day. Updates regarding the reopening of rooms and suites inside the Agassiz Mansion are expected in the coming weeks.

Hotel officials said the fire was accidental and caused by a wood-burning fireplace. While some employees have been temporarily placed at other Newport Restaurant Group properties, the inn said efforts are underway to bring staff members back as quickly as possible.

In a statement, the hotel thanked the community for its outpouring of support following the fire, calling it meaningful to both staff and guests affected by the incident.
