Charming Waterfront Retreat Finds New Owner for $8 Charming Waterfront Retreat Finds New Owner for $840,000

A renovated coastal residence at 1886 Main Road in Tiverton, R.I., has changed hands for $840,000. The property was represented and sold by Connor Dowd of @thedowdteam.

Originally built in 1886, the home blends classic New England charm with modern updates. Recent renovations include a chef’s kitchen outfitted with contemporary finishes, newly refinished hardwood floors, updated bathrooms, and refreshed mechanicals. The living room centers around a traditional fireplace, offering a cozy anchor to the thoughtfully updated interior.

What truly sets the property apart, however, is its position across from the water, with sweeping westerly views over the Sakonnet River. The home offers direct water access across Main Road, making it a coveted location for those seeking both tranquility and connection to the outdoors. Sunset views are a daily spectacle, visible from multiple vantage points within the home.

Beyond its potential as a primary residence, the property had been marketed as a compelling summer retreat or investment opportunity. The house is move-in ready, with recent exterior improvements that include a new roof, gutters, windows, and fresh paint.

The sale underscores continued buyer interest in Tiverton’s coastal corridor, where waterfront access and village charm remain in high demand.

Newport’s iconic Easton’s Beach Carousel may s Newport’s iconic Easton’s Beach Carousel may soon have a new home—and city leaders want your input!

The Tree and Open Space Commission is hosting a special community workshop Tuesday, June 3 at 5:30 p.m. at the Martin Recreation Center, affectionately known as “The Hut,” located at 35 Golden Hill Street. The meeting will explore a bold new vision: relocating the historic carousel to Aquidneck Park and giving the well-loved recreation center a major facelift in the process.

The idea? Blend nostalgia with community revitalization.

City officials hope the move will preserve the treasured carousel for generations while breathing new life into one of Newport’s most active public spaces. Aquidneck Park has long served as a vibrant gathering spot for kids, families, and seniors alike—but it’s showing its age. Upgrades are needed to keep the recreation center safe, inclusive, and welcoming.

Tuesday’s workshop will help shape a recommendation to the City Council, urging a formal feasibility study to see if the carousel and park can be seamlessly—and sustainably—united.

This is your chance to weigh in on the future of two cherished Newport landmarks. The public is encouraged to attend, ask questions, and help shape what could become one of the most promising community projects in years.

Don’t miss it—this could be the first step in bringing more magic to Aquidneck Park!
