🎄✨ Did you know? ✨🎄 Clement Clarke Moore, the bri 🎄✨ Did you know? ✨🎄

Clement Clarke Moore, the brilliant 19th-century scholar and poet, who gifted the world with the timeless Christmas classic “A Visit from St. Nicholas” — better known as “’Twas the Night Before Christmas” — had ties to Newport, Rhode Island! 🌟

In the 1850s, Moore purchased a home at 25 Catherine Street and frequently visited with his family until his passing in 1863. His funeral was held at Trinity Church, where he owned a pew, before his remains were moved to New York. He was also among the donors who helped create what is now Touro Park!

Published anonymously in 1823, “A Visit from St. Nicholas” introduced many of the cherished traditions we associate with Santa Claus today — from his jolly demeanor to the iconic names of his reindeer (Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donder, and Blitzen). 🦌🎅

Moore’s enchanting poem has shaped holiday folklore for generations, and his legacy lives on in the magic of Christmas. ✨
