If you’ve noticed a jaw-dropping silhouette grac If you’ve noticed a jaw-dropping silhouette gracing Newport Harbor this week, you’re looking at history under sail. Velsheda (JK7), one of the last surviving J-Class yachts in the world, has arrived—and trust us, she’s not here to blend in.

Launched in 1933 for British Woolworths magnate WL Stephenson and designed by the famed Charles E. Nicholson, Velsheda was the peak of innovation and elegance. She was named after Stephenson’s three daughters—Velma, Sheila, and Daphne—and raced fiercely in British waters against giants like Endeavour, Shamrock, and King George V’s Britannia.

Though she never raced in the America’s Cup, Velsheda was built to dominate. At the time, she was a standout—6 feet 4 inches longer than Vanderbilt’s Enterprise and nearly 7 feet longer than her Nicholson-designed predecessor, Shamrock V. Her aluminum mast, solid rod rigging, and Terylene sails were cutting-edge, making her one of the most advanced racing yachts of her era.

After decades out of commission—including a stretch forgotten in a mud berth—she was reborn in the 1990s through a two-year restoration led by Dykstra Naval Architects. Outfitted with what was then the tallest carbon rig in the world, she returned to the water ready to reclaim her place on the podium.

Since then, Velsheda has dominated regattas from Saint Barths to Saint-Tropez, thanks to her expert owner-helmsman and a world-class crew of Kiwis and Brits. Her wins span the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, Antigua Superyacht Challenge, Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, and beyond.

Catching sight of her in Newport isn’t just a thrill—it’s a brush with living history. This isn’t just a yacht. It’s a piece of maritime royalty.

A Massachusetts mom is facing child neglect charge A Massachusetts mom is facing child neglect charges after cops say she ditched her 15-month-old baby — and the family dog — in a parked car to hit the slot machines at Bally’s Tiverton Casino.

Elyse Busch, 35, of Onset, was busted early Saturday morning after police were called to the casino’s garage around 7 a.m. and found the infant snoozing alone in an unlocked white Toyota — with a dog sitting beside the child.

According to Tiverton Police, surveillance footage showed Busch had been inside the casino for more than 30 minutes before officers tracked her down at a slot machine, living her best life while her child was left helpless in the vehicle.

Security footage and her ID confirmed she was the car’s owner. She was immediately cuffed and slapped with a charge of Cruelty to or Neglect of a Child.

The baby was taken to Hasbro Children’s Hospital for evaluation, and thankfully was released to a family member after being checked out. Both Rhode Island’s DCYF and Massachusetts DCF were notified about the incident.

Busch was arraigned and released on $3,000 surety bail. She’s due back in Newport County District Court on July 17.

The investigation is still ongoing — and Busch may be gambling with more than just her money.

Check out this incredible footage from Spencer Fau Check out this incredible footage from Spencer Faucher, who was swimming with a whale shark—the largest fish in the ocean—about 100 miles south of Newport.

Most people don’t realize just how wild and exotic the waters off New England can be. The Northeast Canyons are a whole different world.

This gentle giant was calmly filter feeding at the surface, totally unbothered by Spencer’s presence. And like usual, she had her entourage—remoras, suckerfish, and a few other freeloaders.

A magical encounter in one of the most unexpected corners of the Atlantic.
