For seven years, 24-year-old Carrigan Nelson has f For seven years, 24-year-old Carrigan Nelson has faced cancer with a determination and grace that reshaped the lives of people around her. Now, as her disease progresses, she has entered hospice care at Boston Children’s Hospital, where doctors believe her time is limited.

In announcing the news, Carrigan reflected on the years behind her. “I am reflecting on healthier times and even when cancer struck — I didn’t let it take away my happiness. That was a choice.”

That outlook guided everything she did. Over the past year alone, Carrigan raised money for cancer kids, wrote to Congress, advocated for the Give Kids a Chance Act, co-hosted Curefest in Washington, mailed care packages, created artwork for fundraisers, partnered with Strong Little Souls, supported local causes, and even had a day named in her honor — all while undergoing treatment and managing constant pain.

But her long fight has taken a devastating financial toll. Even with the generosity of so many, her seven-year battle with osteosarcoma has depleted her family’s savings. Her mother, who has MS, is disabled, and her father — self-employed and the family’s only source of income — is working part-time as he recovers from a traumatic fall off their roof while trying to make their home more accessible for Carrigan. The family is in dire need of help to cover ongoing medical and related costs.

As she enters hospice, Carrigan wrote, “The end of my life is closer now… I will no longer be suffering from the immense pain I am in every day.” She added, “I am scared but I am also brave… I am extremely grateful for all the incredible people I have met along the way… I love you all so much that I can’t put it into words.”

For someone who spent years lifting others, her community is now being asked to lift her family.

An Indiana man has been found guilty in a decades- An Indiana man has been found guilty in a decades-old Rhode Island cold case involving the sexual assault of two young girls, state officials announced Thursday.

After a nine-day trial in Washington County Superior Court, a jury convicted Frank Thies, 69, of one count of first-degree child molestation and one count of first-degree sexual assault. The verdict was delivered on December 11, 2025, before Superior Court Justice Sarah Taft-Carter.

Thies is being held without bail as he awaits sentencing.

Attorney General Peter F. Neronha said advancements in genetic genealogy helped finally bring the case to a close nearly four decades after the assault.

“Through advancements in genetic genealogy, we are finally able to close the book on this difficult case,” Neronha said. “These two victims demonstrated immense courage during the original investigation, as well as in the decades since. Now, this defendant will finally be held accountable for his crimes.”

Prosecutors proved that on April 12, 1987, Thies sexually assaulted two juvenile girls—both under age 14—at knifepoint in wooded terrain in Exeter. Investigators say the victims did not know him.

Rhode Island State Police Colonel Darnell S. Weaver praised the work of investigators.

“I appreciate the efforts of our Troopers and prosecutors in the Attorney General’s Office on their successful investigation and prosecution of this defendant,” Weaver said. “I hope that this conviction provides some closure for the victims.”

In one of Jamestown’s most coveted coastal neighbo In one of Jamestown’s most coveted coastal neighborhoods, a newly re-imagined residence at 27 Marcello Drive offers a rare blend of privacy, craftsmanship and far-reaching water views. Redesigned in 2025 with all-new finishes and systems, the home sits on an unusually flat, expansive lot—large enough to accommodate a future pool—and is naturally bordered by a grove of 65-year-old holly trees that lend both character and seclusion.

The four-bedroom, five-and-a-half-bath property spans more than 5,000 square feet of finished space across three levels. Inside, an airy open plan is anchored by vaulted ceilings, a striking floating staircase, and eight-inch white oak flooring. A mahogany front porch and balcony frame sweeping vistas of the ocean and Newport Bridge, while the rear patio and outdoor shower support an easy indoor–outdoor rhythm.

The kitchen is outfitted to high standards, featuring a full Thermador suite, an oversized quartz island, dual wine refrigerators, and custom soft-close cabinetry. Each bedroom includes its own en-suite bath, and two laundry rooms add everyday convenience. Radiant heat warms key areas, complemented by a Sonos sound system and hard-wired WiFi.

The finished lower level extends the home’s living space with a private den and movie theater, supported by a full waterproofing system, legal egress, and radiant heating. Mechanical infrastructure includes multi-zone heat pumps, spray-foam insulation, a 500-gallon underground propane tank, 400-amp electrical service, and EV charging stations.

Deeded beach access and potential for a mooring enhance the home’s coastal appeal, while its location—just minutes from downtown Jamestown, Newport, and a nearby golf course—offers convenient access to the broader region. Thoughtfully redesigned and engineered for longevity, 27 Marcello Drive stands as a polished example of contemporary coastal living in Jamestown.
