The Rams (11-3) fought valiantly in a game marked by pivotal moments and missed opportunities but ultimately fell short in their quest for the quarterfinals. Rhode Island appeared to strike early when Shawn Harris electrified the crowd with an 87-yard punt return touchdown late in the first quarter. However, the score was nullified after officials flagged the Rams for a fair-catch infraction. The reversal was one of two first-half touchdowns called back due to penalties, including a Harris touchdown reception that was also erased. Momentum shifted dramatically on the next snap. Mercer’s Myles Redding intercepted Hunter Helms and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown, giving the Bears a 7-0 lead. Rhode Island clawed back as Ty Groff drilled a 17-yard field goal on the final play of the half, narrowing the deficit to 7-3. The Rams surged ahead late in the third quarter when Helms connected with Marquis Buchanan on a spectacular 56-yard touchdown down the left sideline, making it 10-7. Buchanan’s play capped off a stellar performance that included 11 catches for 119 yards. But Mercer dominated the final quarter. Whitt Newbauer found Adjatay Dabbs for a 4-yard touchdown pass early in the period, putting the Bears back on top 14-10. A 24-yard field goal by Reice Griffith extended the lead to 17-10 with just over six minutes remaining. Rhode Island showed resilience, mounting a promising drive that included a 34-yard pass from Helms to Greg Gaines III, pushing the Rams deep into Mercer territory. However, the drive stalled at the 32-yard line after consecutive stops on third-and-2 and fourth-and-2. Mercer took over and ran out the clock to secure the win. Despite the loss, Rhode Island’s season will be remembered for its 11 wins and deep playoff run, a testament to the team’s growth and resilience. The Ocean State is officially RAM NATION! In front of a sellout crowd of 7,685, Rhode Island (9-0) staged an unforgettable comeback to knock off in-state rival Providence and keep the win streak alive. This one wasn’t just another game—it was about bragging rights and proving who runs the state.

It wasn’t easy. After jumping out to an early lead, Rhody found itself trailing by as many as 10 points in the first half. Jaden House was the lifeline, scoring 14 of his 18 points before the break to keep the Rams within striking distance.

The second half? That’s when the Rams woke up. Sebastian Thomas absolutely TOOK OVER, scoring 17 of his 19 points after halftime. Whether it was floaters, pull-up jumpers, or dagger threes, Thomas delivered every time we needed him.

But it wasn’t just him. David Green battled in the paint, finishing with 12 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocks. David Fuchs had a career night with 9 points, 7 boards, and clutch defensive plays. Jaden House added a huge late layup and free throws to help seal the deal.

The moment the tide turned? When Thomas buried a three to tie the game, then found Jamarques Lawrence for a midrange jumper to give us our first lead since the opening minutes. From there, Rhody never looked back, closing the game on a 7-2 run and holding Providence scoreless in the final minute.

This win means everything—not just extending our perfect season, but beating the Friars for the first time since 2019 and showing everyone who owns the state.

Next up, the Rams hit the road for their first away game of the season at Brown on Tuesday night.

🚨 A tense morning at Electric Boat’s Quonset Point facility was resolved without incident after a bomb threat forced the evacuation of one of its buildings.

Emergency personnel were dispatched to Building 9C around 10:30 a.m. Friday following reports of a potential threat. Electric Boat swiftly activated its established emergency procedures, evacuating the affected area to ensure the safety of its employees.

State, local, and federal authorities joined the response effort, conducting a meticulous sweep of the building. Officials confirmed that no explosive device was found. “There was no danger to the general public at any time,” a spokesperson for Electric Boat said.

As the all-clear was given, the company transitioned to a local response team to perform additional safety checks. Operations at the Quonset Point facility are expected to resume with the start of the second shift.

Boston City Councilor Tania Fernandes Anderson has been arrested and indicted on charges of wire fraud and theft of public funds. Federal prosecutors allege she orchestrated a kickback scheme to divert thousands of taxpayer dollars for personal use.

According to the indictment, Fernandes Anderson awarded a $13,000 bonus to a staff member under the condition that they return a large portion of the money to her in cash. Investigators say the alleged handoff happened in a City Hall bathroom in June 2023, where the staffer gave Fernandes Anderson $7,000 in cash.

The councilor, who represents District 7, has also faced prior ethical violations. In 2022, she hired two immediate family members in violation of city rules, leading to a $5,000 fine earlier this year from the Massachusetts Ethics Commission. Prosecutors claim she also falsely represented her relationship to another staffer to secure their city employment.

U.S. Attorney Joshua Levy condemned the alleged actions, saying, “This is a betrayal of public trust and a violation of her duty as an elected official.” FBI officials described the behavior as “a slap in the face to Boston taxpayers.”

Fernandes Anderson, who was first elected in 2021 and recently re-elected in 2023, faces up to 20 years in prison for each count of wire fraud and up to 10 years for theft charges if convicted.

Boston residents and public officials are already calling for accountability as the city reels from yet another corruption scandal.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents nabbed a Guatemalan man accused of sexually assaulting a child after Rhode Island officials let him slip through their fingers.

Felix Meletz Guarcas, 45, was arrested by ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) team on Nov. 20 in a Cranston parking lot, after the Rhode Island Department of Corrections released him to home confinement, despite an active immigration detainer.

“We use immigration detainers as public safety tools,” said Patricia H. Hyde, acting Field Office Director for ERO Boston. “Unfortunately, the Department of Corrections doesn’t notify us about home confinement releases. As a result, we had to apprehend him in a public space, rather than a secure environment.”

Meletz Guarcas, who reportedly entered the U.S. illegally, has a disturbing rap sheet. In September, Providence police arrested him on multiple counts of first- and second-degree sexual assault of a child. Those charges are still pending.

His history with law enforcement dates back decades. In 2002, Pawtucket police arrested him for disorderly conduct and felony assault on police officers. He was convicted and sentenced to six months of probation.

Now in ICE custody, Meletz Guarcas is awaiting a hearing before an immigration judge.

ERO, tasked with enforcing immigration laws and removing dangerous individuals, criticized the handling of the case by local authorities. ICE officials argue the release of individuals subject to immigration detainers undermines public safety.

The agency urges anyone with information on crimes or illegal immigration activity to call 866-DHS-2-ICE or submit tips online.

The Elms is making a grand comeback for the holida

The Elms is making a grand comeback for the holiday season. Starting Saturday, Dec. 7, the historic mansion will reopen to the public as part of the annual Holidays at the Newport Mansions. Expect over-the-top holiday decorations, including Christmas trees, wreaths, garlands, poinsettias, and even displays of antique toys.

The reopening of The Elms follows a brief closure as HBO utilized the historic property to film scenes for the third season of The Gilded Age, Julian Fellowes’ Emmy-winning series. While The Elms was shuttered, visitors were treated to a rare opportunity to tour Chateau-sur-Mer, which had not been decorated for the holidays in over two decades. Chateau-sur-Mer will close once The Elms resumes operations, while The Breakers and Marble House will remain open daily, continuing to captivate visitors with their elaborate holiday décor.

The Elms, once the summer retreat of the Berwind family of Philadelphia, is a masterpiece of French architecture and Gilded Age luxury. This season, its spacious ballroom will feature an elegantly decorated tree and mantel, while the upstairs Sitting Room will showcase a collection of rare Santa Claus figures from Germany, Russia, and the United States, dating from the late 19th to early 20th centuries.

For those intrigued by the behind-the-scenes lives of mansion staff, the Elms Servant Life Tour offers a glimpse into the world of the domestic workers who maintained the lavish estate.
