WaterFire Providence has announced its 2025 summer and fall exhibition schedule at the WaterFire Arts Center, featuring five unique shows that spotlight Rhode Island’s rich creative landscape.
The season opens with Inside Out (through July 6), a solo show by Kate Blacklock exploring themes of memory, identity, and motherhood through dreamlike, digitally enhanced paintings inspired by the pandemic.
Next, Growing the NetWorks (July 10–Aug. 31) fills both the Main Hall and gallery with works by a new group of artists nominated by 2024’s NetWorks Rhode Island participants. Supported in part by BankNewport, the exhibition includes artist talks and interactive programming aimed at building community through art.
This fall, the spotlight turns to emerging talent with Family Business (Sept. 11–Oct. 19), a group installation by the 2024–2025 WaterFire Accelerate cohort. Six artists transform gallery spaces into domestic settings, exploring family, memory, and personal history.
Curators Sihan Chen and Isa Makielski present Nothing Follows its Spontaneous Course (Oct. 23–Nov. 9), a conceptual show examining how automation and machine systems reshape our idea of home. It runs alongside the 30th Annual Fine Furnishings Show.
Rounding out the year, BuyArt (Nov. 13–Jan. 4) returns as a holiday marketplace of affordable small works, paired with weekend markets like The Good Trade and the Providence Artisans Holiday Shows.
“Our 2025 season highlights the talent, collaboration, and diversity that define Rhode Island’s art scene,” said Laura Duclos, WaterFire’s Director of Creative Services.
