The New England Patriots begin a new chapter Sunda The New England Patriots begin a new chapter Sunday when they host the Las Vegas Raiders at Gillette Stadium, marking the first game under head coach Mike Vrabel and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.

Quarterback Drake Maye enters his second season with high expectations after a rocky rookie campaign. This time, he has more help: the Patriots added star wideout Stefon Diggs, veteran Mack Hollins, and rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson to spark an offense that finished near the bottom of the league last year. Their debut will be tested immediately against one of the NFL’s most disruptive pass rushers.

Defensively, new coordinator Terrell Williams faces the challenge of limiting one of the league’s premier tight ends while keeping Henderson contained in space.

The Patriots are aiming for back-to-back season-opening wins for the first time since 2020, after beating Cincinnati last year. They are 23-15 all-time in home openers, including 11-3 at Gillette Stadium.

History leans New England’s way. The Patriots are 18-16-1 against the Raiders and 3-0 in season openers against them, most recently a 30-20 victory in 2005. The Raiders have never won at Gillette Stadium, where New England holds a perfect 3-0 mark in the matchup.

Both teams finished 4-13 in 2024 and are looking for a reset. Las Vegas flashed a top-10 passing game but struggled on the ground, while New England ranked near the bottom in most offensive categories. Vrabel and McDaniels hope to flip that script and start strong in front of a home crowd eager for a turnaround.

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. Sunday in Foxborough.

Sadie Emma Asher, 24, passed away on September 4th, 2025.

Born in Newport and raised in Middletown, Sadie brought light and warmth to every life she touched. She is survived by her parents, Robert Asher and Laura Byam; her cherished siblings, Maddie Pirri, Aidan Asher, and Blair Borgeson; her beloved grandparents, Judith Asher and Kenneth Byam; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and nephews who will forever hold her close in their hearts. She was the granddaughter of the late Robert Asher and the late Jayne Byam.

Sadie was known for her beautiful soul, infectious smile, and kind heart. Her bright blue eyes were breathtaking, captivating everyone who had the privilege of meeting her. She had a wonderful personality that made people feel instantly comfortable. She loved walking Jax and spending time on the beach, places where she felt most at peace. Her presence brought joy, laughter, and comfort to family and friends, and her memory will continue to do the same.

Sadie will be deeply missed and forever loved.

A private family service will be held to honor Sadie’s life.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Potter League for Animals, 87 Oliphant Lane, Middletown RI 02842, as Sadie adored animals — especially dogs.

The farmhouse that inspired “The Conjuring” fi The farmhouse that inspired “The Conjuring” films — one of the most successful horror franchises in movie history — is officially headed to foreclosure auction. In a twist fit for the big screen, the sale is set for Halloween morning, Oct. 31, at 11 a.m.

The 3,000-square-foot home at 1677 Round Top Road in Burrillville, known worldwide as “The Conjuring House” and long rumored to be haunted, was the site of the Perron family’s chilling experiences in the 1970s. Those accounts later became the basis for the 2013 hit “The Conjuring.” Since then, the franchise has expanded into multiple spinoffs, with the newest installment debuting earlier this month.

Current owner Jacqueline Nuñez purchased the house for $1.5 million in 2022, transforming it into a tourist attraction that offered ghost tours and overnight stays. But her tenure has been turbulent. In one unusual episode, Nuñez claimed the ghost of former 19th-century owner John Arnold told her to fire a manager she believed was stealing. Combined with financial troubles and legal issues, the property is now being sold in a mortgagee’s foreclosure auction.

The looming sale raises the question: who should take over one of the most notorious haunted homes in America? We think there’s a perfect candidate — ghost hunting superstar @amybruni, the Aquidneck Island resident and TV personality known for her work on “Ghost Hunters” and “Kindred Spirits.” With her paranormal expertise and local roots, Bruni could give the Conjuring House a future as extraordinary as its past.

The auction is being handled by JJ Manning Auctioneers. Whoever steps up to bid will be buying more than just 8.5 acres in northern Rhode Island — they’ll be buying into a chilling piece of American folklore.
