A Providence man who threatened to assassinate Pre A Providence man who threatened to assassinate President Donald Trump and two top federal officials was found crouched in a bathtub when federal agents came to arrest him, authorities said.

Carl D. Montague, 37, was arrested on June 30 and immediately began confessing before agents even explained why they were there, according to a federal complaint.

Montague allegedly posted the unhinged, expletive-laced threat on Trump’s Truth Social platform on June 27, writing:

“It’s a shame you won’t get to see the end of your f******* term, because I’m gonna make sure I put a bullet rate (sic) between your f******* head you piece of s***, you Pam Bondi. Stephen f****** Miller, all you b******, are gonna get a f******* bullet to the head every single f******* one of you.”

The complaint reads: “Montague was upset with current politics and expressed his frustrations via Truth Social. Montague did not have a specific reason to direct his threat towards DCOS Miller and AG Bondi. Montague observed their names in prior threads and posts he was viewing and then submitted his post. Montague claimed he could not identify AG Bondi. Montague expressed remorse for his post.”

U.S. Attorney Sara Miron Bloom said Montague is charged with threats against the president, interstate threats, and threats to assault, kidnap, or murder U.S. officials or law enforcement.

The profanity-laced tirade targeted Trump, Attorney General Pamela Bondi, and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller.

After his initial appearance on Monday afternoon, Montague was released on $10,000 unsecured bond.

The 12th Annual Newport Yacht Rendezvous took plac The 12th Annual Newport Yacht Rendezvous took place on June 27, drawing more than 300 guests to Safe Harbor Newport Shipyard. Attendees meandered the docks, hopping aboard yachts ranging from the 62-foot Andromeda to the 123-foot Invictus. Each vessel offered a signature cocktail and a glimpse into the luxurious life at sea.

Kelley Coen, chief advancement officer of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport, welcomed the crowd and highlighted several updates. First, she praised recently retired executive director Joe Pratt for his 11 years of transformative leadership, which elevated the organization to new heights. She then announced that construction had begun the previous week at the Church Street facility—marking the start of a major overhaul. In addition to physical improvements, new software systems will be implemented to create a safer, more welcoming environment when the building reopens in 2027.

But of course, the real heart of the evening was the mission: supporting the children of Newport who rely on the services and programs provided by the Boys & Girls Clubs. More than 200 local kids will enjoy a summer at Camp Grosvenor this year. The evening also spotlighted the Club’s school-year programs when the BGC Bratz hit the dance floor just as a delicious dinner from Russell Morin Catering was served.

Looking sharp in a tan linen suit, Marlin DaCruz took the mic to introduce the evening’s featured speaker, 2025 Rhode Island Teen of the Year Adequoya Kamali Josephine Mathews. A Club alumnus himself, DaCruz described Mathews as “exactly what this world and generation needs,” praising her charisma, confidence, and ability to uplift others by helping them see their own light.

Mathews shared how the safe space at the Club allowed her to feel proud of her ancestry and history and develop a passion for advocacy. It was also where she found music production—a creative outlet for emotions she couldn’t always express in words. From her involvement with Mathletes and Conexion Latina to the Keystone Club and advocacy at the State House, it was easy to see why Mathews was named Youth of the Year.

A visit to one of Newport’s historic mansions is A visit to one of Newport’s historic mansions is like a stroll back in time through America’s opulent Gilded Age. At The Elms, the summer experience just got a bit more immersive, as tour ticket holders and Preservation Society members can now dine at the decidedly French-style café, @elmscarriagehouse, located inside the large and lovely Carriage House at the back of the property.

The Elms was designed by Horace Trumbauer for coal magnate Edward Berwind and his wife, Julia, and was modeled after the 18th-century French Château d’Asnières outside Paris. Trumbauer built the large, limestone-clad carriage house and stables on the edge of the property, with apartments above for the gardeners and stable hands.

Today, absolutely bursting with French charm—its entrance flanked by a gorgeous, ornate fountain and twin staircases—it houses the warm and welcoming café with both indoor and outdoor dining areas, and a lovely lunch menu to match, presented by the Stoneacre Group.

Items range from salads and soups to a selection of club sandwiches and pasta dishes. Indulge in a tasty Kaluga caviar dip that you can pair with a glass of Cava, a mimosa, beer, wine, or a bottled cocktail from New York City’s West Village Italian staple, @viacarota. Proper ladies can enjoy tea with fresh-baked macarons or cinnamon swirl coffee cake.

On a recent visit, I ordered the lightly creamy—but not thick or pasty—New England chowder, this version studded with leeks and smoky bacon, cubes of potato, and bits of clam, topped with fresh dill. The lobster salad club arrived on the prerequisite three slices of white toast, layered with lightly dressed lobster salad, salty bacon, crisp lettuce, a tomato slice, and herby mayo. It came with a green salad topped with shaved radishes.

The Elms was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1996. And if the history doesn’t quite get you there, the newly minted Carriage House Café might just be the ticket to a true taste of the Gilded Age.
