A North Kingstown cop was hurt Friday night when a A North Kingstown cop was hurt Friday night when a suspected child predator him with his car while fleeing an undercover sting operation, cops said. Police say Alec Perry, 30, of Pawtucket, thought he was meeting a 13-year-old girl for sex at the North Kingstown Park and Ride. Instead, the “teen” was an undercover officer in a multi-agency child exploitation task force that included RI State Police, the FBI, the AG’s Special Victims Unit, and NCIS. When officers swarmed, Perry allegedly hit the gas, plowing into North Kingstown Det. J. Dylan Navakauskas before tearing out of the lot. Cops opened fire as Perry sped off, with at least six evidence markers littering the scene. The chase ended near North Kingstown Town Beach when Perry smashed his car and bolted on foot. He didn’t get far. Officers tackled him and hauled him in on 10 charges, including indecent solicitation of a child, electronically disseminating indecent material to a minor, felony assault, eluding, assaulting a cop, and resisting arrest. Perry’s rap sheet reads like a career criminal’s greatest hits — he’s already on probation for first-degree robbery, felony assault, and possession of a stolen vehicle. He’s now sitting at the ACI as a probation violator. “I want to commend our Troopers and partners in law enforcement,” said Col. Darnell S. Weaver of the RI State Police. “Their efforts led to the arrest of a suspected child predator with an extensive criminal history. Our thoughts are with the injured officer and we wish him a speedy recovery.” The detective was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital and has since been released. The shooting is under review as part of Rhode Island’s standard officer-involved shooting protocols. #northkingstown #newportbuzz
