PSA: Don’t Drive OFF The Ocean Drive

via WPRI

Two people were transported to the hospital Tuesday after crashing their car into the water in Newport.

Fire officials said they were called to the area of the Green Bridge on Ocean Avenue at about 5:20 p.m. and arrived to find the vehicle in the water.

The occupants, two young adults, had gotten out of the car prior to crews’ arrival on scene. They were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to officials.

Crews used a crane to remove the car from the water.

It’s a story as old as man (in fact it’s as old as the first day I had my driver’s license. My parents let me take the car. I was warned NOT to drive around Newport’s historic Ocean Drive. My parents were convinced that someway, somehow, my car would end up in the drink. Did I listen? Fuck Hell Heck, no. Who listens? Anyway, my friends and I had dinner at Newport’s finest establishment for 16-year-olds….Pizza Hut. It was pretty…average. So we drove around the Ocean Drive, my friends were ‘kissing’ in the back seat when I decided to employ my best voyeuristic skills and check out their make-out prowess. Well,  I lost control of my car, I zigged when I should have zagged and ended up 20 yards in the woods near the tee box at Newport Country Club’s 2nd Hole)

But anyway…apparently someone did what I did 20 years later but just wetter!

From what we can gather, everyone is doing ok. Well, the car????…not so much. BUT you get my drift.

No harm, no foul.

PS – I have an internship this summer for whoever crashed this car. Get in touch!
