RIP Ruth Meierowitz

Ruth Meierowitz, in her 98th year, daughter of Louis Feldman and Anna Tillis Feldman, passed peacefully on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Village House Nursing Home. She enjoyed being part of the first-floor community and especially loved the musical programs and playing bingo. The family is grateful for the staff’s excellent care and their kindness.

Ruth leaves a sister Natalie Haas, a daughter Lynn Almanzor (Fred), a son Matthew Meierowitz (Barbara) and grandchildren Lisa Blasi (James), Bethany Kleine (Thomas), Max Almanzor, great grandchildren Lauren and Matthew Blasi, William, Emily and Jane Kleine and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Max, her brother Morton Feldman, and her sister Selma Bobba.

Upon receiving her associate’s degree from Bryant College, Ruth began a long career she loved as a stenographer and secretary for the Department of the Navy, starting at the Goat Island Torpedo Station and retiring from the Naval War College.

Ruth had been a life long member of Touro Synagogue and also actively participated in many religious and civic organizations where she was able to use her skills as a secretary and stenographer. She loved ballroom dancing, practicing yoga, and playing bridge.

Her family is comforted by remembering the joy that Ruth and Max received from spending precious weekend hours at Easton’s Beach with family and friends.  Her granddaughters Lisa and Bethany have special memories of sleepovers at Grammy’s house eating frozen yogurt, playing with her jewelry and watching Dallas. Her grandson Max fondly remembers playing the organ together and Grammy sitting front row at all his events and performances and always being his number one fan.

Ruth’s funeral service will be held Sunday, March 3, 2019 at the Hoffman Jewish Memorial Chapel, 11 Fowler Avenue, Newport at 11:30 am.  Burial will follow at Beth Olam Cemetery, 181 Wyatt Road, Middletown.  Shiva will be held Monday, March 4, 2019 from 4-7 pm at 87 Carter Drive, Portsmouth, RI.
