The Revolution Wind project off Rhode Island is ro The Revolution Wind project off Rhode Island is roaring back to life after a federal judge granted Ørsted a preliminary injunction Monday — a ruling opponents say will devastate marine life and forever scar the Ocean State’s coastline.

The project had been halted last month when the Trump administration issued a stop-work order, citing national security and maritime safety concerns. But Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha and Connecticut’s William Tong sued to overturn the pause, calling it baseless.

Judge Royce Lamberth sided with the developers and his decision now clears Ørsted to resume driving piles into the seafloor and installing giant turbines just 15 miles off Rhode Island’s coast.

Ørsted crowed in victory: “Revolution Wind will resume impacted construction work as soon as possible, with safety as the top priority,” the company said in a statement.

But coastal residents, fishermen, and environmental advocates say the real safety crisis is unfolding beneath the waves. They argue the $5 billion project is blasting apart fragile habitats, disrupting whale migration routes, killing dolphins, and jeopardizing the health of Narragansett Bay.

The 704-megawatt wind farm is touted by Ørsted as clean power for 350,000 homes in Rhode Island and Connecticut, but opponents warn the price will be paid in dead whales, collapsing fisheries, and irreversible coastal damage.

For now, the steel giants keep rising — and so do fears that the state’s push for offshore wind is an environmental disaster masquerading as green energy.

A 37-year-old Warren man accused of stealing two v A 37-year-old Warren man accused of stealing two vehicles at gunpoint and leading police on a chaotic chase across Aquidneck Island was arrested Monday morning in Somerset, Massachusetts.

According to Newport police, the incident began around 8:02 a.m. when officers responded to Shaw’s Supermarket on East Main Road in Middletown for reports of an armed carjacking. The suspect, later identified as Jaron Monroe, allegedly stole a white Jeep SUV and fled toward Newport.

A few minutes later, the Jeep crashed with disabling damage near the rotary at Admiral Kalbfus Road. Witnesses said Monroe pointed a gun at several drivers before fleeing on foot toward The Admiralty. Police said he then confronted a driver and passenger at gunpoint, forcing them out before stealing their gray Toyota Highlander.

Monroe sped off and drove through Gate 1 of the Newport Naval Base, cutting across the secure military facility before exiting onto Burma Road. He then continued north on West Main Road, where Portsmouth police briefly pursued him before ending the chase for safety reasons.

A regional “Be On the Lookout” alert was immediately broadcast across Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Just over an hour after the spree began, Monroe was spotted in Somerset, where police took him into custody.

Investigators later learned that immediately before the Shaw’s carjacking, Monroe had been involved in a hit-and-run crash on Valley Road and allegedly pointed a handgun at another victim in the parking lot of the Shell gas station on East Main Road.

No injuries were reported during the morning’s series of crimes. Monroe now faces multiple charges, including armed carjacking, robbery, and assault. Middletown police charged him with assault with intent to commit specified felonies, robbery of a motor vehicle occupant, felony assault, and duty to stop in accidents causing vehicle damage.

The Middletown Police Department, Newport Police Department, and Massachusetts State Police are jointly investigating.
