Middletown DMV reopening Monday, May 18th

The R.I. Division of Motor Vehicles announced today that, in keeping with Governor Raimondo’s efforts to restart the Rhode Island economy, it will reopen its Middletown branch on May 18, 2020.

The DMV branch located at 52 Valley Road in Middletown will reopen to serve customers Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Service at the Middletown branch will be by reservation only. To make a reservation, visit www.dmv.ri.gov.

“The Division has continued serving customers since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic with a reservation service at our Cranston headquarters,” said DMV Administrator Walter R. “Bud” Craddock. “The reservation service, coupled with adherence to the COVID-19 procedures recommended by the R.I. Department of Health, will allow us to return service to one of our busiest locations. Aquidneck Islanders and others will appreciate the return of in-person DMV services to their part of the state.”

Rhode Islanders and others are reminded that expiration dates for driver’s licenses, inspection stickers, and registrations that were due to expire in March, April and May have each been extended for 90 days.

The decision to reopen the Middletown branch recognizes the importance of minimizing personal interactions during the COVID-19 crisis while acknowledging the need for some individuals to continue traveling in support of essential businesses and organizations, or personal needs such as food shopping and pharmacy visits.

Division customers are reminded that a number of transactions can be completed by mail or online: including renewing licenses or registrations, submitting CDL medical certifications, ordering custom plates, obtaining driver records, and changing addresses.

If it is necessary for you to complete a transaction in person, customers are reminded that the Division’s office in Cranston is open on a temporary, six-day weekly schedule, by reservation only. Walk-ins are not allowed at this time at either location.
