This video comes to us from Ethan Roach, who was j This video comes to us from Ethan Roach, who was just out fishing yesterday, minding his own business, when a hammerhead shark cruised right past his boat—just two miles off Newport. Casual.

Now, here’s the fun/scary part: hammerheads can swim up to 25 miles per hour. That means if this guy had somewhere to be—say, Second Beach on a sunny day—he could be there in under 5 minutes. You wouldn’t even have time to finish applying your sunscreen.

Even at their leisurely pace of 5 miles per hour, they can still make it from offshore to your beach picnic in under 25 minutes. That’s faster than finding parking in downtown Newport.

So next time you’re floating around thinking, “this water feels great,” just remember—you might not be the only one enjoying the swim. 🦈
