Historic District Commission to Host Public Information Session on Elevating Historic Properties

Newport’s Historic District Commission will be hosting a public information session at Innovate Newport on Tuesday, Nov. 5th to review a series of policies and design guidelines for elevating historic properties that are vulnerable to sea level rise and storm surge.

The effort is part of the City’s Historic Preservation Office’s ongoing effort to develop resilient neighborhoods within the local historic district and the FEMA designated floodplain.

The Commission has been working on developing the proposed policies and design guidelines since July of 2019 with an eye toward adopting a final version in the coming months. The information session is due to get underway at 7 p.m. at Innovate Newport, located at 513 Broadway. The evening is free and open to the public, and all are invited to attend.
