Newport Mental Health Names Dr. Joshua C. Brown as Medical Director

Newport Mental Health, the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) serving Newport County, has appointed Joshua C. Brown, M.D., Ph.D., as its new Medical Director.

Brown brings a blend of clinical care, academic leadership and research experience to the role. He will oversee a team of psychiatrists and clinical nurse specialists while helping shape the organization’s behavioral health programs.

“Dr. Brown brings exciting new skills, perspective, and clinical expertise that will meaningfully strengthen our programs and services,” said Dayna Gladstein, President and CEO of Newport Mental Health. “His leadership will support our talented psychiatric team and help us continue to expand and evolve our high-quality, person-centered care to meet the needs of Newport County. We are so pleased to welcome him to Newport Mental Health.”

Brown is dual-trained in psychiatry and neurology. He also serves as Medical Director of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) at McLean Hospital and is an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School. He previously held faculty appointments at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and at Butler Hospital.

In addition to his clinical work, Brown is editor-in-chief of the journal Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation and serves as president of the Clinical TMS Society. His research focuses on novel treatments for suicidality, depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder.
