What looks like just another Newport intersection today was once a hub of leather, laundry, and liniment. Directly across the street stood Carlton B. Lawton’s Harness Company, run by Henry Lawton, a local craftsman whose family had been working with leather in Newport for generations. According to old city directories, the business—and the building—were passed down to Henry from his father, George Lawton, who was also a harness maker. Next door was a tire dealer, followed by a modest laundromat. But here’s the detail we love—look at the sliver of a building on the far left edge of the photo. It’s still there. It used to house Downing Bros. Pharmacy, a turn-of-the-century drugstore that sold everything from perfume to patent medicine. These days, it’s a tattoo shop—a modern twist in a very old frame. Anywhere LOW that a scared dog might hide. Please ask all your neighbors to do the same . We do know there have been three possible sightings on Friday of Santana - Ward Ave., Hoogendorn Farms and Turner Road. Today we had two thermal drones over several areas with no Santana sightings . Our hope is Santana is alive but scared and hiding within a few miles of Sherri Lane.
