Salve Regina University football opened its 2025 c Salve Regina University football opened its 2025 campaign with a decisive 34-13 victory over UMass Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon at Toppa Field in Newport, R.I.

Senior quarterback Thomas Fallon led the Seahawks’ attack, completing 18 of 32 passes for 258 yards and three touchdowns. He connected with Jacoby Smith for six yards, Spencer Chapman for a 72-yard strike, and Kyle Crampton for another six-yard score.

The Corsairs struck early with field goals from Connor McManus (22, 37 yards), but Smith answered the second with an 87-yard kickoff return that sent the Seahawks into halftime ahead 20-6.

Salve extended its lead in the third quarter with a 10-play, 67-yard drive capped by Fallon’s toss to Crampton. UMass Dartmouth responded with a 46-yard touchdown pass from Daunte Melton to Jayden Francois, trimming the margin to 27-13.

Running back Justan Luzzi sealed the win with a 22-yard fourth-quarter touchdown run. Luzzi finished with 94 yards on the ground, while Chapman led receivers with 104 yards. Defensively, James Minotti posted 13 tackles to pace the Seahawks.

The win was Salve Regina’s fifth straight against UMass Dartmouth and evened the all-time series at 8-8. The Corsairs, who won the MASCAC regular-season title in 2024, had not faced the Seahawks since 2012.

Salve Regina (1-0) will host Western New England next Saturday at noon at Toppa Field.

Final: Salve Regina 34, UMass Dartmouth 13
Records: SRU 1-0, UMD 0-1

A new wastewater surveillance program on Nantucket A new wastewater surveillance program on Nantucket has detected cocaine levels up to 50 percent higher than the national average, according to results published by local health officials.

The testing, conducted between June and August 2025, found cocaine concentrations topping 1,500 nanograms per liter of wastewater — well above the national benchmark of 1,000 ng/L. By contrast, fentanyl and methamphetamine registered well below average, while nicotine levels tracked close to the norm.

“Nantucket, like communities across the country, is not immune to the growing public health crisis of substance misuse and overdose,” officials said, noting the island’s seasonal population boom that quadruples each summer.

The initiative builds on surveillance infrastructure first used during the COVID-19 pandemic and now scans sewage for cocaine, opioids, meth, nicotine, and other high-risk substances. Health leaders say the island-wide snapshots help first responders and recovery services anticipate overdoses and allocate resources.

Attorney Randolph Rice told Fox News the striking part wasn’t just the high levels, but the lack of fentanyl or xylazine, deadly additives often mixed with cocaine elsewhere. “What it’s telling us in Nantucket,” he said, “is that they’re getting the pure stuff.”

Officials emphasized the testing is anonymous, covering roughly 70 percent of residents, and is designed to reflect community-wide trends rather than pinpoint individuals.

The findings provide a clearer picture of substance use on the island and are meant to support prevention and treatment efforts.

We can’t wait to see the Newport and Palm Beach levels!
The New England Patriots begin a new chapter Sunda The New England Patriots begin a new chapter Sunday when they host the Las Vegas Raiders at Gillette Stadium, marking the first game under head coach Mike Vrabel and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.

Quarterback Drake Maye enters his second season with high expectations after a rocky rookie campaign. This time, he has more help: the Patriots added star wideout Stefon Diggs, veteran Mack Hollins, and rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson to spark an offense that finished near the bottom of the league last year. Their debut will be tested immediately against one of the NFL’s most disruptive pass rushers.

Defensively, new coordinator Terrell Williams faces the challenge of limiting one of the league’s premier tight ends while keeping Henderson contained in space.

The Patriots are aiming for back-to-back season-opening wins for the first time since 2020, after beating Cincinnati last year. They are 23-15 all-time in home openers, including 11-3 at Gillette Stadium.

History leans New England’s way. The Patriots are 18-16-1 against the Raiders and 3-0 in season openers against them, most recently a 30-20 victory in 2005. The Raiders have never won at Gillette Stadium, where New England holds a perfect 3-0 mark in the matchup.

Both teams finished 4-13 in 2024 and are looking for a reset. Las Vegas flashed a top-10 passing game but struggled on the ground, while New England ranked near the bottom in most offensive categories. Vrabel and McDaniels hope to flip that script and start strong in front of a home crowd eager for a turnaround.

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. Sunday in Foxborough.
