A multi-agency search effort for two missing fishe A multi-agency search effort for two missing fishermen off the coast of Little Compton concluded for the day Saturday afternoon, with both men still unaccounted for.

Emergency crews were first called to the scene near Warren’s Point Beach Club around 8 a.m. after receiving reports of two fishermen in distress. According to authorities, the two men—brothers—were fishing on the rocks when one fell into the water. The other jumped in to try and save him. A third person onshore also attempted to help.

The Little Compton Fire Department led the rescue operation, with support from the Tiverton Fire Department, Cranston Fire Department, Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM), and the U.S. Coast Guard. Marine units from Middletown, Newport, and Little Compton joined the effort, conducting both water and land searches throughout the day.

Despite extensive efforts, the fishermen were not found. The search was officially suspended just after 3 p.m., according to the Little Compton Police Department.

Officials have not released the names of the missing men.

A couple and their dog are safe after their boat c A couple and their dog are safe after their boat caught fire in Newport Harbor early Saturday morning.

Just after 4:30 a.m., a 911 call came in reporting flames on a vessel moored behind Market Square near the Lobster Bar. Newport Fire crews quickly responded, launching Marine 6 from Perrotti Park while Engine 1, Ladder 1, and Rescue 1 headed to the scene.

By the time firefighters arrived, the two adults and their dog had already made a narrow escape—climbing into their small 8-foot dinghy and paddling to safety at Perotti Park. Rescue crews confirmed everyone was safe on shore, but one of the adults needed further popevaluation and was treated by Middletown EMS.

Newport’s Marine 6 got water on the fire just minutes later, and the flames were brought under control by 4:52 a.m. Help was also called in from North Kingstown’s marine unit as a precaution.

According to officials, the couple had been asleep on the boat when they woke up to the smell of smoke. They tried to fight the fire themselves, but it spread too fast. Thankfully, they managed to escape just in time.

The Newport Harbor Master, U.S. Coast Guard, and Sea Tow were all notified and responded to the scene. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but everyone is safe—and that’s what matters most.

Traffic is finally moving again in downtown Newpor Traffic is finally moving again in downtown Newport.

The heavy-duty tow truck arrived 3:30 p.m. and successfully removed the broken-down bus that had been blocking eastbound Memorial Boulevard near Spring Street for close to two hours Saturday afternoon.

Newport police have reopened the roadway, and traffic is beginning to ease, though delays may continue as the backlog clears.

Drivers are still urged to use caution in the area as congestion slowly returns to normal.
