1 – Kathy Griffin plays the Newport Comedy Series – (Friday at 7pm & 9:30pm)

Kathy Griffin, a two-time Emmy winner, New York Times best-selling author and four-time Grammy nominee returns to the Newport Comedy Series at the Newport Hyatt after a seven-year absence. 2 – Coaching Weekend (Thursday – Sunday)

Authentic 19th century coaches drawn by matched and highly-trained teams of horses will return to Newport in the triennial renewal of a Weekend of Coaching, hosted by The Preservation Society of Newport County. The public will enjoy free viewing of the colorful and historic coaches every day, as they drive through the streets of Newport and the grounds of the Newport Mansions, celebrating and preserving a century-old sporting tradition. 3 – Coaching Weekend Dinner Dance (Saturday 7pm)

Enjoy a black-tie cocktail reception, seated dinner on the terrace and dancing in the Great Hall of The Breakers to commemorate the Coaching Weekend whips who are bringing their magnificent coaches and horses to Newport. $500 – $1200 pp – sold out

4 – 38th Annual Fools’ Rules Regatta (Saturday 9am)

The 38th Annual Fools’ Rules Regatta will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2015 on the Town Beach at East Ferry in Jamestown, R.I. Rain date will be the following day. The cannon will be fired at 9am to begin construction of the “vessels.” Entrants are allowed two hours to construct a sailing craft on the beach, and these “vessels” must be constructed of non-marine items. The craft may be pre-constructed, but must be disassembled and built again on the beach. Races begin at 11am with the firing of the cannon to begin the Class 1 race.

5 – Herreshoff Classic Regatta (Friday – Sunday)

The Herreshoff Classic Regatta is an annual event drawing participants from around the world. Classic yachts, many of them Herreshoff designs, gather for a weekend of racing and social events.

Racing Classes Include:  S Class, Sea Sprite 23, Twelve Metre, CRF Cat Boat, Herreshoff 12½ (wood or fiberglass including CCSB, H12, Bullseye, and Doughdish), CRF Classic (pre-1971), CRF Spirit of Tradition (1971 and later)

6 – 2015 Hinman Masters NYYC Invitational Team Race Regatta (Friday – Sunday)

Teams race in Sonars with 3 or 4 sailors per boat.  Skippers must be at least 45 years of age.  Each crew member must be at least 40 years of age.

The winning team will be presented with the Commodore George R. Hinman Masters Invitational Trophy — the NYYC’s Masters team-racing championship. The trophy was rededicated in 1999 by Commodore George M. Isdale in recognition of George R. Hinman’s commitment to sailing and friendly competition.

 

7 – 80’s Night at Norey’s Star Restaurant (Saturday 7pm)

Each and every Saturday night Norey’s plays all of your favorite 80’s music videos. Each week this ends up becoming absolute sing-along dance-a-thon

8 – Reggae Music at Tavern On Broadway with The Mintones (Friday 9pm)

Come check out one of Rhode Island’s premier reggae acts performing roots reggae, modern reggae and dub at one of Broadways hottest new venues.

9 – Newport Polo vs Jamaica (Saturday 5pm)

Newport Polo, host of the Newport International Polo Series XXIV, is the home of the Westchester Polo Club, America’s first polo club, est. in 1876, and founding member of the United States Polo Association, offering public exhibition matches and polo club member services for grass & arena polo, and polo instruction year-round.

10 – NIM Fest (Sunday 3pm – 6pm)

The Newport Independant Music Festival welcomes Abbey Rhode and The Kane Brothers – Bring a blanket and enjoy a Sunday afternoon concert at the King Park Gazebo.

11 – Tour the International Tennis Hall of Fame (Daily, 10am – 5pm)
