The flavor profiles of different oysters are indeed varied and complex, often described much in the same way one discusses fine wines.  Join us for a guided oyster odyssey as we navigate the fresh waters of Rhode Island to experience the tastes and the subtle differences between a variety of legendary local oysters. The experts from Midtown Oyster Bar will educate us on these beautiful bivalves from various Rhode Island oyster farms.  Learn from our visiting wine educators about each of the wine pairings selected to complement the oysters’ unique characteristics.

Celebrate the flavors of Sonoma County in an elegant and historic setting, the Grace Vanderbilt, one of Newport’s iconic hotels. This three-course luncheon will be carefully designed and prepared by SIMI Winery Chef Kolin Vazzoler in partnership with hotel Chef Anthony Theocaropoulos. These two culinary artists embrace the practice of using farm fresh, seasonal products in their dishes. Each course will be perfectly paired with a SIMI wine and presented by one of the visiting winery experts.

Opus One

In 1978 Baron Philippe de Rothschild and Robert Mondavi created a single red wine of absolute quality that would reflect the personality and character of both partners.  The two men imagined a seamless blend of their winemaking and their cultures.  This trailblazing joint venture began in Napa Valley with its first vintage in 1979.  Opus One has since grown to worldwide recognition.  Since 2001, Opus One’s wines have been crafted by one winemaker, Michael Silacci.  This prestigious tasting, presented by the winery’s senior stateswoman France Posener, will take an in depth look at the evolution of the winery’s grape growing, winemaking philosophy and expert techniques that all contribute to the beauty that is Opus One.
