🔥 Heat Advisory in Effect Through Wednesday Eve 🔥 Heat Advisory in Effect Through Wednesday Evening for Southern New England 🔥

A heat advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Wednesday for much of southern New England, with heat index values expected to reach up to 103 degrees.

The advisory covers all of Rhode Island except for Block Island. portions of northern Connecticut, and all of Massachusetts except for the east slopes of the Berkshires and Cape Cod and the islands.

Officials warn that the combination of high temperatures and humidity could lead to heat-related illnesses. Residents are urged to take precautions, including drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioned spaces, and avoiding prolonged time in direct sunlight.

Health experts recommend wearing lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and limiting strenuous outdoor activities to the early morning or evening hours. People are also encouraged to check on relatives and neighbors, particularly the elderly and those without access to air conditioning.

Signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke include dizziness, nausea, rapid pulse, confusion, and fainting. Anyone experiencing these symptoms should seek medical attention immediately.

Authorities emphasize that staying cool and hydrated is critical during extreme heat events.

Brown University Health will keep the birthing cen Brown University Health will keep the birthing center at Newport Hospital open for at least one more year while it evaluates the facility’s long-term future, according to reporting from our good friends at @newportthisweek.

The announcement comes amid growing concern from residents and healthcare advocates over potential plans to close the center. Community members have warned that shutting down the unit would create significant gaps in maternal care on Aquidneck Island.

Thank God State Representative Lauren Carson stepped in to lead the fight!

The birthing center serves families across Newport County and surrounding communities, offering labor, delivery, and postpartum care. Local leaders have urged Brown University Health to recognize the hospital’s critical role in serving an island population with limited access to other maternity facilities.

A moment for the history books. The Swell Season A moment for the history books.

The Swell Season returned to the Newport Folk Festival main stage and brought the entire sold‑out crowd to a standstill with “Falling Slowly.”

The Oscar‑winning ballad, first heard in “Once,” hit like a wave over Fort Adams — quiet, raw, and absolutely spellbinding. Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová proved once again why this song will never let go. And when the crowd took over the final verse, their voices rising in unison, the performance became something truly timeless.
