Newport’s iconic Easton’s Beach Carousel may s Newport’s iconic Easton’s Beach Carousel may soon have a new home—and city leaders want your input!

The Tree and Open Space Commission is hosting a special community workshop Tuesday, June 3 at 5:30 p.m. at the Martin Recreation Center, affectionately known as “The Hut,” located at 35 Golden Hill Street. The meeting will explore a bold new vision: relocating the historic carousel to Aquidneck Park and giving the well-loved recreation center a major facelift in the process.

The idea? Blend nostalgia with community revitalization.

City officials hope the move will preserve the treasured carousel for generations while breathing new life into one of Newport’s most active public spaces. Aquidneck Park has long served as a vibrant gathering spot for kids, families, and seniors alike—but it’s showing its age. Upgrades are needed to keep the recreation center safe, inclusive, and welcoming.

Tuesday’s workshop will help shape a recommendation to the City Council, urging a formal feasibility study to see if the carousel and park can be seamlessly—and sustainably—united.

This is your chance to weigh in on the future of two cherished Newport landmarks. The public is encouraged to attend, ask questions, and help shape what could become one of the most promising community projects in years.

Don’t miss it—this could be the first step in bringing more magic to Aquidneck Park!

More than a decade after Market Basket employees w More than a decade after Market Basket employees walked off the job to protest the ousting of their beloved CEO, Arthur T. Demoulas is once again at the center of corporate turmoil.

Demoulas — affectionately known as “Artie T.” — was placed on paid administrative leave Wednesday by the company’s board, which also suspended several of his family members and executive allies. In a letter to employees, the board said it’s investigating “credible allegations” that Demoulas planned a work stoppage and claimed the right to name his children as successors without board approval.

Board members said Demoulas resisted efforts to collaborate on governance issues and said there was evidence that there was organizing for a future, near-term work stoppage.

In response, Demoulas called the probe “a farcical cover for a hostile takeover.” A spokesperson said he was ousted by his sisters and their three board appointees and accused them of trying to wrest control of the company.

The clash echoes the dramatic 2014 standoff, when Demoulas was removed by a rival faction led by cousin Arthur S. Demoulas. That summer, Market Basket employees and loyal shoppers launched massive protests and boycotts until Arthur T. struck a $1.6 billion deal to buy the chain.

Now, 10 years later, the tensions have resurfaced. Demoulas’ spokesperson noted the company paid off that debt in 2024 and highlighted his ongoing popularity, including handing out worker bonuses last summer.

Market Basket’s board insists the company is operating at peak performance and promises no changes for customers or employees during the investigation.

The New England-based grocery chain operates 90 stores across Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, and Rhode Island and employs 30,000 workers.

It is not hyperbole to say that to bite into one o It is not hyperbole to say that to bite into one of @belinda_artisan_baker’s pastries is to be transported to the City of Lights. On the one hand, it makes perfect sense. This master baker’s parents are owners of the acclaimed Bistro Indochine, an authentic Vietnamese restaurant located in the 15th Arrondissement in Paris. But as a baker, Belinda is completely self-taught and didn’t truly start her baker’s journey until 2017. One week in the “labo” of a friend in Paris (French bakers consider their kitchens laboratories—and in the precision of their technique, this makes sense), and she was hooked.

“From there I started to learn everything by myself. I bought some books and watched some videos and that’s it!”

The co-founder in 2020 of Le Bec Sucré in Middletown has landed at @sunsetcove_ri in Portsmouth. The move gets her closer to another dream, while her baking prowess has only begun to shine.

She lives by the French chef’s credo: Le gras, c’est la vie. Fat is life!

“I like my pastries balanced, not too sweet, made with fresh ingredients and of course, rich in butter—because it’s all about the butter, and about flavor and texture, not sweetness,” she said.

Her blueberry tart with pastry cream, for example, is ethereal, and among the other breakfast-focused baked goods of the Gods she now makes are mind-bending muffins.

“I never made muffins in my life, so I had to work on the recipes to get them right. I wanted more fruit. So, besides the fresh fruit, all are filled with freshly made fruit purée, like blueberry coulis or fresh lemon curd.”

Currently, she’s working on new menus for breakfast, lunch, and dinner—and on French desserts. “I want colors, textures, and flavor,” she said of the French, Vietnamese, and locally inspired items she has planned.

From a recipe of legacy and personal determination, Belinda M’s new project is bound to be a tasty one for area food fans.
