🎂 Happy 56th Birthday to the Newport Pell Bridg 🎂 Happy 56th Birthday to the Newport Pell Bridge! 🎉 The Newport Pell Bridge stands as a significant gateway to one of America’s most beautiful and historic cities. This iconic structure, replacing a former ferry service, has been instrumental in boosting Newport’s economy and tourism industry since its opening. Today marks 56 years since this engineering marvel was officially opened. Dating back to initial plans in 1934 and serious efforts starting in 1948, construction began in 1966 and culminated in a grand opening on June 28, 1969. The bridge’s engineers received numerous accolades for their work, making it the longest suspension bridge in New England. The bridge spans 1,601 feet over Narragansett Bay, with an overall length of 11,247 feet. Renamed in 1992 in honor of Senator Claiborne S. Pell, the bridge sees about 27,000 vehicles daily, with toll revenues supporting its upkeep. Featured on Rhode Island’s state quarter and one of the state’s most frequently photographed landmarks, the Newport Bridge is more than just a transportation link; it’s a beloved icon. #newportri #newportbuzz #newportbridge #rhodeisland

Bailey, a 3-year-old Labrador-Staffordshire mix, i Bailey, a 3-year-old Labrador-Staffordshire mix, is looking for a new home—and fast. Her owner, a friend of the Newport Buzz family, has been called to Australia on short notice after a long and storied career at the United Nations. Unfortunately, Australia’s strict pet import rules require months of quarantine, making it nearly impossible to bring Bailey along. Originally rescued from Sofie’s Place in Arkansas, Bailey is spayed, microchipped, and fully vaccinated. She’s healthy, weighs 47 pounds, and has a calm, loving temperament. She’s lived with kids, gets along well with other dogs, and would thrive in a caring, stable home. Bailey is currently in Fairfield, Connecticut, but meetups can be arranged. Interested?
