Nearly $300 million in unclaimed property is available for Rhode Island residents and former residents to claim through the state treasury. Many assets go unclaimed because people or businesses didn’t know they had them or just forgot about them. Sometimes those assets are worth thousands of dollars. They include stocks, bonds, mutual funds, bank accounts, uncashed payroll checks, utility deposits, traveler’s checks, contents from deposit boxes, and other money.
The Unclaimed Property Division holds unclaimed property forever, and some of it could be yours.
