Newport was abuzz Wednesday as filming continued f Newport was abuzz Wednesday as filming continued for Remain, the upcoming supernatural thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Phoebe Dynevor and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. Despite sweltering 92-degree temperatures, a large crowd gathered around Lower Broadway and Washington Square hoping to catch a glimpse of the stars or spot a bit of Hollywood magic in action. Local businesses stayed open and spectators lined the sidewalks, phones in hand. Remain brings together an unexpected creative team—romance novelist Nicholas Sparks and master of suspense Shyamalan—for a genre-bending story that blends love, loss, and the supernatural. Gyllenhaal plays Tate Donovan, a grief-stricken architect recovering from the death of his sister and a stay in a psychiatric facility. He retreats to Cape Cod to design a summer home, but instead finds Wren (Dynevor), a mysterious woman who challenges everything he believes. As their connection deepens, Tate uncovers haunting secrets and spiritual mysteries that force him to confront the boundaries between life and death. The film is slated for an October 2026 release.
