Curators at the @nptrestoration Foundation have un Curators at the @nptrestoration Foundation have unveiled a new tour that’s sure to have fashion lovers flocking to Rough Point to get a glimpse into Doris Duke’s closets and her expansive archive of clothing.

“Fashioning Doris Duke: Inside the Fashion Collection at Rough Point” debuted on June 12, offering an exclusive glimpse into the late heiress’s stylish legacy.

Led by NRF’s collections and exhibitions manager Kristen Costa and director of engagement Gina Tangorra, the inaugural tour welcomed a few dozen guests eager to explore Duke’s extensive wardrobe. Tangorra pulled elegant frocks from the racks with care, allowing visitors to admire the detailing up close. Costa noted the archive contains over 2,000 garments from Duke’s residences, including Duke Farms in New Jersey and Shangri La in Hawaii. “We are learning more about her through her clothes,” Costa explained, adding that because Duke didn’t keep diaries, her fashion offers rare personal insight.

The group was then guided to a climate-controlled attic storage room where shelves are lined with acid-free boxes, each labeled with photos of the garments inside. Items range from boutique finds in California to couture from Balenciaga and Yves Saint Laurent. Some pieces await restoration, including a silk-lined cape made from chicken feathers.

Many of Duke’s fur garments were donated decades ago to anthropological and natural history museums, though a few fur-lined pieces remain. The reason for the donation? Furs tend to attract pests. Costa offered practical preservation tips—urging attendees to ditch plastic dry cleaner bags in favor of breathable cotton. “Plastic deteriorates on dresses,” she warned, suggesting pillowcases as dust covers instead.

The tour wrapped in a former guest room showcasing designers Duke championed, such as Madame Grès, Tina Leser, and Irene Galitzine, and concluded with refreshments in the gallery. Two more fashion tours are planned later this year.

A Newport Estate of Rare Distinction Has Found Its A Newport Estate of Rare Distinction Has Found Its New Chapter

Tucked behind the gates of Ocean Lawn, where historic estates line the curve of Newport’s storied coastline, 10 Ocean Lawn Lane has officially sold for $7,925,000—marking the highest residential sale in Newport, RI since Sept. 2024, according to data from the Multiple Listing Service.

Originally part of the legendary Firestone estate, this stone-and-shingle masterpiece—built in 2017 by @horanbuilding—represents the best of what modern craftsmanship can achieve when paired with timeless architectural vision.

Represented by Joseph Costa of Mott & Chace Sotheby’s International Realty, the buyers now step into a home that feels more like a legacy.

Set on three acres of manicured grounds, the estate unfolds with effortless grace. Soaring ceilings, sunlit rooms, and open-concept living spaces make it as inviting as it is refined. The heart of the home—a chef’s kitchen with striking Rhino marble countertops and top-of-the-line appliances—opens to a series of living and dining areas made for both quiet mornings and celebratory evenings. French doors lead to a heated pool, hot tub, and a sweeping bluestone patio—perfectly positioned for golden hour.

Inside, 8 bedrooms, multiple fireplaces, a theater, game room, and fitness suite offer comfort, privacy, and room to grow. A main-level primary suite adds everyday convenience to this fully turnkey home—just minutes from Newport’s Cliff Walk, beaches, and downtown charm.

“I’m honored to have represented the buyers in the purchase of this extraordinary Newport estate,” said Costa. “This property offers the perfect blend of classic New England architecture and modern luxury that my clients will treasure.”

The buyers were represented by @joshephcostaluxuryrealestate of @mottandchace

The sellers were represented by Michelle Kirby and Kate Greenman of Gustave White Sotheby’s International Realty.
