A 51-year-old man has died from injuries sustained A 51-year-old man has died from injuries sustained in an alleged assault involving four juveniles in Providence earlier this week, police said. Officers with Providence Police were called to the area of 249 Manton Ave. just before 7:30 p.m. Monday after reports of an assault. Witnesses told police that several young people knocked a man to the ground and repeatedly kicked and punched him before fleeing. The victim, later identified as Romy Alfonso, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital. Detectives said his condition worsened over the course of the week, and police announced Friday that Alfonso had died from his injuries. Police said three juveniles were taken into custody Tuesday in the Manton Avenue area in connection with a separate disturbance. During interviews conducted with guardians present, the three admitted \involvement in the earlier assault, according to authorities. A fourth juvenile was later identified and apprehended. The four youths — three 12-year-olds and an 11-year-old — were initially charged with felony assault and conspiracy related to the incident. They also face additional charges stemming from the later disturbance. A family court judge ordered all four held at the Rhode Island Training School. Police said additional information will be released pending the results of the autopsy. It was not immediately clear whether the charges would be upgraded following Alfonso’s death. #providenceri #newportbuzz

In response, the City of Newport has announced a mandatory parking ban to allow crews to safely and efficiently clear streets. What to know 🕘 Parking ban timing:

• Private driveways, where available City officials say moving vehicles off streets is critical to snow removal operations. Streets affected The ban applies to many roads across the city, including Bellevue Avenue (Kay Street to Bowery Street), Broadway, Thames Street, Spring Street, Washington Street, Washington Square, and Farewell Street, along with Annandale, Bedlow, Bliss, Coggeshall, East Bowery, Farewell, Friendship, Gibbs, Gould, Kay, Powell, Summer, Third, Warner, West Marlboro, West Narragansett, William St., and Van Zandt from J.T. Connell to Malbone. After the storm Residents and business owners are reminded to clear sidewalks within four hours after snowfall ends to ensure safe pedestrian access. Planning is underway to honor the Rogers High Scho Planning is underway to honor the Rogers High School Class of 2026, as families and volunteers work to continue a beloved Newport tradition: displaying graduating seniors’ portrait banners along Broadway. Organizers are raising $7,500 to cover the cost of producing and installing the banners, which feature individual senior photos and have become a familiar and meaningful sight throughout the city. All funds raised will go directly toward the banner project, which is entirely community-funded. The annual display celebrates the achievements of the Rogers High School graduating class while offering residents and visitors a visible reminder of the students who represent Newport’s future. Families say the banners bring pride not only to graduates, but to the entire community that helped shape them. Beyond academic accomplishments, the banners reflect the collective effort behind each student’s journey — from teachers who guided them in the classroom, to coaches who instilled teamwork and discipline, to local businesses that provided early work experience and mentorship. “This tradition celebrates more than graduation,” organizers said. “It reflects the strength of our community and the role it plays in helping these students succeed.” Supporters are encouraged to donate and share the fundraising link to help reach the $7,500 goal and ensure the Class of 2026 is celebrated prominently along Broadway.
