Snow-weary residents in Newport are about to play Snow-weary residents in Newport are about to play musical cars again.

City officials have announced a neighborhood parking ban for Thursday, Feb. 5, targeting parts of the Off-Broadway neighborhood as crews continue digging out from the storm 11 days ago.

From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., drivers on the following streets must move vehicles off the road or risk being towed:

Barney Street, Barney Court, Sherman Street, Bull Street, Mann Avenue (Broadway to Kay), Ayrault Street (Broadway to Kay), Everett Street (Broadway to Kay), Calvert Street, Cranston Avenue, Tyler Street, Ashurst Place, Bush Street, Kilburn Court, Central Street, Mount Vernon Street, Marin Street, and Whitfield Place.

“No Parking” signs are already posted, and officials say cars left behind will be towed as plows work to clear narrowed roadways clogged by snowbanks.

The crackdown doesn’t stop there.

On Friday, Feb. 6, the focus shifts to the Fifth Ward, where a parking ban will be in effect on Carroll Avenue from Morton Avenue to Old Fort/Harrison Avenue, again from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Streets in work zones will be temporarily closed while crews operate. City leaders are urging residents to use free parking in public lots and available metered and unmetered spaces, including downtown and along Broadway.

Bottom line: If your car is still on the street when the plows roll through, don’t expect it to be there when you get back.

Residents say the real disaster isn’t the snow — it’s the city manager. In a city that deals with winter every year, the repeated confusion, last-minute bans, and half-cleared streets have critics asking a blunt question: What exactly is the city manager managing?

Instead of more six figure hires, perhaps we should be investing in more boots on the ground.

Tickets to the Newport Folk Festival sold out in less than a second — triggering the annual wave of stunned fans, spinning browsers and group texts that all read the same: “Did anyone get through?!”

Then came the sticker shock.

Weekend passes almost immediately surfaced on StubHub for more than $2,000, despite the fact that organizers haven’t revealed a single artist for this summer’s waterfront music pilgrimage at Fort Adams.

Festival officials are now sounding the alarm.

“Please do not purchase tickets you may see on the secondary market, they are speculative tickets,” the festival said, warning that some sellers list passes they don’t actually own. In other words: you could shell out thousands and still be left outside the gates.

The only safe route? Official tickets through DICE, the festival’s exclusive partner. All passes are mobile-only through the DICE app — no PDFs, no printouts, no workarounds.

Still, none of that is slowing demand.

Newport Folk’s mystique is part of the madness. Even without a lineup, fans know the drill: surprise sets, once-in-a-lifetime collaborations and the kind of musical moments that take over social feeds before the sun sets over Newport Harbor.

Lineup unknown.
Tickets gone.
Resale chaos underway.

Just another year at Newport Folk. 🎶
