Smile everyone. Hollywood is coming back to Little Rhody!

Production has just begun on the sci-fi-horror sequel “The Purge 3” and they’re set to film in Rhode Island all of September and October, wrapping just after Halloween.

Slated for a July 2016 release, the franchise’s third run will star Frank Grillo who will reprise his role as Sergeant.

The films take place in a future where one day each year all crime is legalized for a 12-hour period, described by the government as “the Purge.” In “Anarchy,” Grillo played Sergeant, a man who seeks revenge on the night of the Purge, only to get pulled into protecting a group of people who are left without shelter as purging begins.

“The Purge” and “The Purge: Anarchy” were low-budget films that went big. “The Purge” starring Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey became a major success with $89 million at the global box office on a production budget of $3 million.  The sequel, “The Purge: Anarchy” earned a total of $200 million worldwide.

Shooting is expected to take place extensively in Providence and unconfirmed rumors have them filming here on Aquidneck Island too. So keep your eyes open, Newport. The Purge is coming!!!
