Police describe Portsmouth murder scene as “horrific”

A man has been arrested for murder after a stabbing last night in Portsmouth. Police were dispatched to a call to 100 Almeida Terrace at the Bay View Estates off of West Main Road at 10:38pm and found what they described as a “horrific scene.”

Officers discovered a 42-year-old woman stabbed multiple times. Portsmouth Fire pronounced her dead at the scene.

Raymond Ramsey, 50, was arrested for the murder and will be formally arraigned later this afternoon for murder and violating a no-contact order.

The responding officer, Kyle Hurley, just graduated from the police academy in May and has only been on the job for about a month.

Police are withholding the victim’s name until her family is notified.
