Michael McCarthy Youth Sports Grant
In honor of Michael McCarthy’s love of sports and his dedication to academics, the Youth Sports Grant program will provide funding for Newport County schools, sports organizations, and individuals. Eligible applicants must be participating in the following areas: youth athletic programs; community- based programs addressing an active lifestyle and team building skills; and established camps with an emphasis on sports.
The grant program is particularly interested in providing opportunities for participation of children and young adults age 18 and under. The grant program may provide financial support for the following purposes: youth sports programs and projects, full or partial scholarship funding for camps or youth athletic programs, and financial support for equipment and small capital projects.
Grants will be awarded to a variety of sports and recreational activities on Newport County throughout the course of the year. Goal Line has four application deadlines that have been created to correspond with seasonal sports activities. The upcoming deadline for applications is Octorber 1, 2016. The amount of funding will range from a minimum of twenty five dollars up to a maximum of fifteen hundred dollars.
The Michael McCarthy Scholarship Fund grew from the tragedy of Mike’s accidental death on September 10, 2004. The McCarthy family chose to memorialize Mike’s life through the awarding of scholarships.
