Portsmouth Police Ticket 36 Motorists In Eight Hours For Crosswalk Violations

After receiving complaints about vehicles not stopping for pedestrians in crosswalks, the Portsmouth Police Department conducted a crosswalk sting last week. The police used an officer wearing civilian clothes who entered the crosswalks on Turnpike Avenue and East Main Road near the Portsmouth High School and attempted to cross the street. Over an eight hour period, 36 motorists were issued $85 traffic violations for failure to stop at a crosswalk for a pedestrian.

Please keep all our pedestrians safe! Remember to yield to pedestrians crossing in our crosswalks especially now that school is back in session.
